Would the same apply to a cylinder to sphere transition? On mine I'm planning on a 1" thick collar welded to the sphere then the cylinder to that .<br />

Joe, ABS says stiffened cones are to have their ends bounded by two heavy stiffeners each located as close as possible to the point of cone-to-cylinder transition.<br />
<br />
The stiffener is not located on the weld line but as close as possible to it.<br />
