Hi Rick.
Bit of a late reply, but I used a car bonnet (you might call it the "hood")
pull cable, connected to both drop weight handles. One pull of the cable
releases both weights.  It works surprisingly well for a simple solutions.

I managed to find a pic of it on my old website.
