Hi Ian,from my dealings with fb, I have found them a lot more pro-active in controlling hate speech, porn etc than other social media platforms like telegram for instance. I had a partial ban on me for suggesting dropping something on a certain place in Russia.I guess you pay taxes to the American govt who are supporting Israel, who are bombing Gaza & killing children. If you looked in to it too deeply you will find something you don't agree with everywhere. But your choice where you draw the line.Alan

Hi Alan,

thanks for sharing information/settings to help people protect themselves better on facebook, I really appreciate your efforts to promote safer use.

I don't really have anything against businesses that make money showing ads.  But calling what FB does 'revenue through ads' means ignoring a lot of things which amount to crimes against humanity (including children) and I just can't ignore this for the convenience of sharing photos.

Yes, somebody can send me scam emails as well, but getting scam requests on FB isn't my main concern here, mainly because any scam emails I get do not result in increased teen suicides or promoting a genocide in Myanmar.

Cheers,

  Ian.

Ian, Jon,Yes, they provide a service & gain revenue through adds etc from it. A lot of the settings you can adjust to maintain more privacy. Personally I like ads that are tailored to my interests. But this isn't just facebook collecting data, the internet does the same.I have had a lot more problems with email, & constantly get Junk mail & scams under the names of people on this mail list. Most of the time they are going in to junk mail, but then you have to check the junk mail periodically because legitimate mail ends up there. If you open an email attachment from a scammer you run the rusk of having your computer infected.Alan
