James, I believe I will always have the standard fore and aft soft K-250 ballast tanks. In addition I robbed a similar idea from Snoopy utilizing tubes to hold "variable ballast" floats. I just liked the idea of having some additional options for trimming and I believe I will get some added surface stability/freeboard (untested yet).
I might also add additional saddle tanks along side my variable ballast float tubes in the future as I want to add some decking with out loosing stability. My in water testing will determine some of this but like you I am interested in towing and general surface stability.
