I seem to remember that that the 3/4 hp motors drew 10 amps. Those numbers calculate out to 5 amps unloaded. Double it with the prop? Hmm. Don't quote me on that. It was a long time ago.

I don't know about those motors--we used 3/4 horse 120volt, and then upgraded to 1 hp later on. What do you have?

Vance,
Thanks' I will sleep on that one, the pair of modern mechanical seals will cost about 250 dollars for the pair. Might be worth it?
Do you know how many amps the thrusters draw at full load?

Hank,
We used them a lot. They work fine as long as the spring tension is set correctly. Be careful rinsing them off, as the o-rings will retain water and can cause case and shaft corrosion. That's probably more a salt water issue than fresh, but oxygen starvation will make SS rust, too.

Vance,
I broke the mechanical seal seat yesterday while replacing an iffy bearing. I am curiouse how reliable these spring loaded seals were. I ask because I can buy a couple of nice upgraded mechanical seals on eBay for a good price.
Hank
