Do you remove the absorbent after each use, then put it back in the scrubber?

yes, it comes in 5L sealed plastic cans, like oil does.  I just pour it back in and screw the lid on.  Im waiting to see how long 5l lasts.  I make a note each time I use it of how long its been on for.  So far i've done about 5 hours and there is no change in colour or performance.
